Port orange resident wins national pet photo contest on petsource.org from WWPIA.

MONROVIA, Calif. (Dec. 4, 2007) The World Wide Pet Industry Association, Inc. (WWPIA), the oldest non-profit organization within the industry promoting responsible growth and development of the companion pet and related products and services, announces that Corrine Butcher and her pugs, Benjamin and Henry, of Port Orange, Fla., are the grand prize winners of its recent photo contest at www.PetSource.org. The contest, themed Spookiest/Scariest Pet, ran throughout October and into November, and called upon pet parents to submit photos of their pets in the Halloween spirit. The public selected the winner as they visited PetSource.org. Butcher's photo of her pugs, dressed as Batman and Robin, received more than 1,000 votes. The winning photo beat out more than 300 photos submitted overall. As part of the grand prize, WWPIA has made a $1,000 donation to the local animal protection agency of Butcher's choosing. Compassionate Pug Rescue (CPR) of Miami is the recipient. CPR accepts all pugs regardless of their condition, nurses them back to health and finds them a loving home. Designed to be the leading web resource with access to information, articles and expert advice on all types of pets, PetSource.org is the consumer arm of WWPIA and is the one-stop source for all things pet-related for consumers, industry retailers and experts alike. Doug Poindexter, WWPIA president, said: PetSource.org is a fantastic resource to educate consumers about all kinds of animals, and it extends far beyond dogs and cats. Our monthly consumer contest is a great way to bring current and potential pet owners to the site to discover all the benefits of pet ownership, as well as to gain access to the latest news and information on their furry family members. Butcher said she selected CPR to receive the $1,000 because the work they do is desperately needed.
Having rescued a pug from CPR, we are thrilled to be able to offer this donation to them, Butcher said. The money will help pay for the medical expenses and the basic care of pugs rescued by CPR. Knowing this, winning the contest was exciting and rewarding. Butcher will also receive a gift basket of prizes for her pugs, including a Universal Pet Comfort Sleeper memory foam pet bed by Orange County K9, an Angelica's Cards gift pack and other dog-friendly prizing.
